Izykite
Izykite. Sounds good. Finding out anything about Izykite is not ‘easy’ but maybe that makes it all the more intriguing. Izykite is an example of a wave of independent Korean musicians that keep things simple, letting the music speak for itself.

Izykite is a great name and it describes her music; flowing, at times angelic, melodic. A Sunday morning. Her music initially reminded me of The Sundays and the Cocteau Twins, in that her sound is at times, other worldly. I wish l could tell you more about Izykite, but frankly l can’t. Her debut single Belated Regret was only in 2021 and she has since followed up with three other singles, her latest being Promises in 2022. Clean guitar, piano and some slick production gives Izykite a sound that is at times full of melancholy and sorrow but not sad. It’s strangely uplifting. The music is serious but doesn’t take itself too seriously.
Izykite.
iTunes labels Izykite under the K-Pop genre. I’m not sure if that is an accurate description or not. Yes, she is Korean. Yes, her music is Pop (or is popular). But l am not sure Korean musicians like Izykite would like the association of K-Pop. I suspect Izykite would like no label at all and instead be in her own bubble; drifting along. An independent label. Maybe this story is an acknowledgement that good music does not have to be overly curated and or maybe it is a desire by new artists to remain free from the influences that shape their music in untended ways. Izykite follows a line of Korean singer, composer, song writers (like Darin, O3ohn and lots of others l am sure) that celebrate a modest tone to making music with a less manufactured aesthetic, still managing to keep their dreams alive.
I would be happy for anyone to tell me more. Please.
